Surfing and Chiropractic Care

I’m extremely fortunate to be living and working on the Northern Beaches. It’s no secret that one of the most popular sports on the Northern Beaches is surfing. Just recently learning how to surf, I now know why it is extremely addictive and also how physically demanding surfing is…

All that time spent paddling out past the waves with the head and mid back hyperextended can lead to pain and stiffness in the back. Not to mention the more serious injuries that occur when you get ‘wiped-out’.

Every surfer would love to surf as much as possible and at the most optimal level as possible. Unfortunately, injuries do occur and restrict your time in the water and/or decrease your performance.

Throughout these summer holidays, we have seen a rise in the number of amateur surfers presenting with, neck, shoulder, back and hip pain in our clinic. Amateur surfers can learn a great deal from professional surfers with preventative care and injury management.

As a chiropractor and a recent surfer, I know the importance and benefits of Chiropractic care. It also makes so much sense as to why many professional surfers such as Kelly Slater, Rob Machado and Manly’s own Layne Beachley just to name a few, utilize Chiropractors on a regular basis to enhance their performance and assist them to overcome and prevent injuries.

So whether you’re an amateur, an aspiring pro, a top ASP Pro, or a senior legend, Chiropractors can help you by correcting joint alignment, relaxing tight muscles, providing exercise programs, improving mobility and advising on correct warm up routines.

Please call your Chiropractor at AHS on 9948 2826 or visit our clinic at 9/470 Sydney Rd in Balgowlah servicing the surrounding suburbs of Allambie, Balgowlah Heights, Seaforth, Fairlight and Manly on the Northern Beaches.
